The grass always looks greener on the other side.
An outsider believes that the insiders have something worth coveting.
This is the jest of this movie...so many poor people believe that the wealthy have a life that is enviable for the luxury. While the wealthy covet their perception of the freedom and lack of duty indulged in by the poor. Both classes are incorrect in their perceptions. How many people judge others due to perceptions without a shred of truth? So many, and it's unfortunate but still the misery of this life, arrogance, stupidity, lack of compassion with an inability to relate to others not like oneself.
By the time one figures it all out...death beckons...Brideshead and its inhabitants, servants and guests are certainly plagued with this foggy confusion with a healthy dose of Catholicism to muddy the waters all the more. This fact is makes this film a must see.
